Research Diary 2 - Statement of Intent

Research Topic:

For the summary statement to explore for my final project, I would choose Transnational consumption of media texts. The research question would be: How do Hong Kong youths would consume Taiwanese films.

Introduction:

Although Korean culture is massively popular these days but Taiwanese films are not affected by it and they still got many fans. And it is turns out, It would be a significance research because many media categories are owned by Korea I would say. Music, film and TV dramas are the most pursuable stuff in Hong Kong by ladies. Most of them are pursuing Korean stuff because the idol effect from the TV drama or Kpop music, including my friends and my mother of course. The Aim of the research is to find out how Taiwanese film is still pursuing from youths and why they would rather choose Taiwanese films or not affect by Korean film /drama. Is there any elements inside the Taiwanese film or anything else? I will find out what is the main reason why they do the decision in the research.

Method to be used:

For the research, i would use qualitative research method and interviewing 10 to 20 youths which are around 20-25 years old and they like or watching taiwanese films or dramas in the past month. The questionnaire is around 10 questions about why they watch taiwanese film, what is their frequency of watching them, what is the reason they don't pursue Korean film/drama and does it bother you if your friend watch Korean drama and you don't etc.

If applicable, where in Hong Kong I would carry out the research: 

Since it is a questionnaire for the youths who are around 20-25 year-old so i would choose to do the research in the CDP campus(united centre). It is convenient and easy to capture youths to do the research.
