Research Daily 2: Statement of Intent

Research question:
How K-pop can gets such popularity from Hong Kong teenagers?

Introduction:
Aims of my research:
In the start of 00s, our idols are Twins, Eason Chan, Yung ChoYee, etc. We will buy CDS, or magazine. However, in these few years K-pop start gets into Hong Kong, many teenage start to listen K-pop instead of Canto-pop. Especially, the news appears the most in the teenage magazine is Korea singer, not Chinese singer anymore.
My aims of my research is to find K-pop have what special characteristics, example, melody, music video, the package of idol, etc. can get attention from Hong Kong teenage.

Significance of research:
The significance of this research is want to see why K-pop can suddenly get such a big attention from the teenagers grips, hope to find out what is the main points of K-pop and how they can get influence in this few years, not just a short time.

Major points of research:
1) Why the teenages like to listen K-pop and Korean Idols.
2) From the package of idol and music to see how success of Korea can get such popularity
3) Can K-pop still can last longer within this few years?

Methods to be used:
I suggest using both of qualitative and quantitative research method.
In qualitative research, i will first invite about 30 teenagers that around 16-22 years old  (include the group are not addicted at K-pop)  to do questionnaire to see what the Hong Kong teenagers think about K-pop.
On the other hand, i will have an in-depth  interviews with 5 teenagers who around 18-22 years in Hong Kong and they like to listen to K-pop and have bought their CDS and have been went to their concerts.

Question I suggest to ask in the interview:
How long have you been listening to K-pop?
What are the charming parts of the singer/group you like?
Which you think is the most important thing that makes you get into K-pop, idols or songs?
How much you put on K-pop?
Do you think it is worth it to pay those prices on K-pop?
Do you think the K-pop culture can affect last more longer?

  1. Hi Jodi, There are no serious flaws in the proposed research. The topic can be more straightforward - "Why do Hong Kong teenagers like consuming Korean music?" Indepth interviews supplemented by a simple structured questionnaire would be fine. Please go ahead with your project.
