Research Diary 2- Statement of Intent

Research topic:
In my research project, I would like to explore the online communities. The research question is The impact of online communities. Is it advantageous for teenagers?  

Introduction:
With the development of social media, online community has become stronger. People like to share their opinion and express feeling on this cyberspace. Some new and special communication style is developed. The online communities have also become a social aggregation and imagined community. They think they are community even they do not understand each other. Some of the online communities have become the mainstreaming of discussion. It can affect people’s thought and culture in real life. There is some impact of online communities. That why I want to study this topic and I am going to focus on one of the ages, teenager because they are the most users of social media and they are easily influenced so I can get more data from them.

Methods to be used:
For my research topic, the qualitative research is more suitable for analyzing my topic. I am going to interview with 8-10 teenagers who are the members/users of the online communities such as HK golden and 100 Most. These two online communities are popular communities nowadays.

In the interview, the basic questions that I want to ask are about 
Why would you like to become the member/user on the online communities?
What is the advantage and disadvantage as a group of online communities?
Is it enhance/change your thought and culture? And what is it? 
According to the answer of interviewees, I will also ask other relevant questions during the interview. Moreover, I will find some useful secondary research and references to support my report. Finally, I can get the result about online community is advantageous or disadvantageous for them.

  1. Hi Yi-ki, The research question can be more specific. In fact, you have something in mind and this is explained in the section "methods to be used." Please specify the platform you want to study - Either Golden Forum OR 100 most. They are two different things. The former is more communal while the latter is more like an online broadcasting station. The question can be refined as "How do Golden Form (or other platforms) construct an online identity for local teenagers?" Research method is appropriate.
