Research Diary 2 - Statement of Intent

1. Summary statement of what I would like to explore for my final project:

Research question: How do Hong Kong young adult consume digital and actual physical media?

     2. A short paragraph on how this develops themes and concepts raised in lectures:

I am planning to do research about digital and actual physical media purchasing behaviors on young adult. As Science and technology is more and more flourishing, lots of digital media has been developed such as e-book, I- turn music, online TV or movie and game. Netizens can through the internet to collect the digital source, and it looks like the entire world seems to be heading on the digital way. Personally, I still read physical books, buy comic books and magazines, DVDs and CDs, because I enjoy having a physical collection that I can see on my shelves. So how about the actual physical media, I am wondering on how young adult to see this changing do and perspective the market of digital and actual physical media? Do they prefer more physical media or free download digital media and why? And how would be the physical media market shape in the future?

3. Methods to be used:

I am planning to have an in-depth interview with 10 young adult who are around 20-25 year old in Hong Kong and they like actual physical media, online digital and download digital media in the past six months.

Questions may be around 10 to 15, questions are consist of their times of purchase on physical media and digital media, the source and which online platform they visit most or How much money they will spend at purchased digital media and physical media?

      4. If applicable, where in Hong Kong I would carry out the research:

My target should be a group of college students, ages around 20-25. Because, they are one of a group most connect with the digital and actual physical media. Therefore, I’m planning to do my research in campus.

  1. Hi Chau-ling, The research question is clear though you can throw out more specific follow-up questions for it. Make reference to uses and gratifications theory and researches and you will have more idea. Qualitative research is fine enough and the implication in the rationale is nice. You can start doing your project.
