Research Diary 2 - Statement of Intent

Summary statement
In this research report, I would like to probe about the influence of American films, so the topic of my research report is “How American film influence Hong Kong people to consume the film’s products.”

Introduction
As the America’s movies are very famous around the world, there are many American films showing in different country every month. Marvel and Disney are two popular companies that provide some famous films including super hero theme movie and animated film. Those famous films regularly would release some products when the film is come up, such as the figures, phone case, clothes, tableware and bottle. Those products also are popular in Hong Kong.
The aim of this research report is investigating the reason that why American movies are famous around the world, and the differences between American movies and the other country’s movies. Also I would like to probe how those American movies conduct different groups of Hong Kong people to purchase the product about the film
In this research report, I expect I can find out some trend in the result, for example, the attraction of American movie that make it to be the most famous movies around the world. And the people would like to buy some products of the movie after they watched the movie, also those products can bring them some unique experience, feeling or even confident.

Research Diary 2 : Statement of Intent

In this project , i would like to find out the different between mainstream media and alternative media , and how to influence our daily life .  Nowadays , when internet was popular , many people (especially young people)would willing to receive social information on some net-channel or website such as Youtube , Facebook , Twitter ,Hong Kong discuss forum ,Golden. As we can see that , above those point ,a big part of young teenagers were grown with those alternative media , they usually receive social information  and sharing personal thoughts on there , but there are too many alternative media channel or website contains , it’s hard for me to do a research about all of the alternative media in a short time , so , i decide to narrow the choice of choosing that which alternative media were more suitable for me to have a compare with the mainstream media .

i will focus on two local folk media “passiontimeshk”(熱血時報) and “TVMost”(毛記電視)  , compare with two mainstream medias “Oriental Daily News(東方日報) and “TVB” .Those media are generally acknowledged for hong kong people different age group ’s top subscribe and watching, it is easy to find the interviewer as they are subscribing those 4 media , and i can do the comparing of differences and similarities between mainstream or alternative media more properly.

My research topic should be “ in the various possibilities , how those mainstream and alternative media affecting different age groups of HK people ? , and compare the differences and similarities of them “

This project aims to find out different age groups HK people ’s subscribe habits . and after getting the information in mainstream media and alternative media , their reported method or information authenticity how to influence their political orientation and social trends .Therefore , find out their status in the world of modern society ,which analyze their similarities and differences.

I would like to interview two groups of teenagers and young people ,  two groups of adults .
I would set up a few questions such as “do you satisfied nowadays mainstream media like TVB or Oriental Daily News(or alternative media like “passiontimeshk” and “TVMost”) and trust their information authenticity ? “if yes or no , why and let them share their reasons of habits on choosing which media to be the first choice to receive information on everyday. After that, in their discussion  , i will collect the interview’s informations to analyze the status of  nowadays or future development social trends on mainstream media or alternative media ,  the reasons of why alternative media are so “alternative “ , and the differences and similarities of those two types media .

Moreover , i will create a little online quiz research to count down a small range of young people and older people that their choice of different age groups and why .

Research Diary 2

In my general research topic , you suggested me can focus on tv show , but I have a extend of my  topic , Recently have lot of tv show and drama filmed lot of heroes movie and becoming actress starring that change i think can be a good topic to me . With my old topic it has the same idea , that is what we can learn in this show or movie . I want to make few point to explain .
  1. When Actress starring have any change now ?
  2. Why these production start to let actress starring ?
  3. Is it can attract more audience ( woman ? )
  4. People know actor and actress have huge different of the salary is it a progress ? Because Heroes movie always the important are force on the Actor . And lot of Heroes movie are Man not a woman .
  5. I think these movie and tv show can show us what is the society .

These point are my starting idea , but of course I worry is it too difficult to implement , so I think other if these cant be success . Tv came from the society , we can learn a lot from tv , tv show have lot of program , they teach you how to cook , science , some crime show , these all teaches us lot , is it people can learn in show ?
  1. What they learn in these show ?
  2. Is it different show can attract different ages ?
  3. Watch Tv can make people easy to learn ?

I still think qualitative versus is the best to be my research mode because can make the research more interesting and easy to attract people to finish the research . I don't want to use lot of question , so i think i use about 10 - 15 to question people their view . I think can use some pictures to substituting the question . Such as use pictures to be a question to let people choice it , it can make people more want to answer . Because if it about words than will make people get bored and not serious to answer .

These all my new update of my research topic , and I know my grammar have so much wrong , I decide when i create my question , i will check more times my grammar .

Research Diary 2 - Statement of Intent

Summary statement of what I would like to explore for my final project:

The research topic i would like to choose is  “Globalization or hybridization of genre”. The reason why i choose this topic as my research topic because i think Hong Kong is the place between Western and Oriental culture. There will be so much things can compare with the other and i will focus on films and sexual culture. That’s why my research question is “ How do Hong Kong Teenager  consume Western and Oriental movie with sexual element.”

how this develops themes and concepts raised in lectures:

Hong Kong, as a international city, there are many movies come and show on cinema everyday. Those movie may be come form China, Japan, US or even Korea. etc. Each movie were representing their home country’s culture. But when those were showing in Hong Kong, many things will changed by subtitle. Or some of those local movie had add some western movie element, for example “Form Vegas to Macao” had add a robot character like Iron man. Was that Movie still can count on local movie or a hybridity movie?

Through this research, i hope i could find out why the western movie was more popular than local and china (Oriental) movie when those movie using the same sexual element. for example, Ted 1/2 and From Vegas to Macao. Both of them were using some sexual and violent element, but why those teenager in Hong Kong thought “Ted 1/2” was much better than “Form Vegas to Macao”. Those movie were representing their own culture for different country. But Why the Western Movie always more popular than the local movie.

Methods to be used:

In this part, I prefer to use qualitative and quantitive methodology both for supporting my research. Using Quantitive methodology because i need to know which genre of movie people would like to watch. And also quantitive methodology can separate the participants ages and help me to find out which how many people like to western movie and how many like the local or Oriental movie. That’s why i will create a questionnaire for those question to connect the data and analysis them. Also i will use snowball sampling as my sampling method because this method and help me to find more teenagers who come from different places and had different educational background. All those people will become one of my advantage of my research result and make my research become more reliability.

After i connect all those questionnaire, i will invite those people who had finish the questionnaire to have a interview to ask them more specific detail, like his/ her feeling about movie had add some sexual element, or how they feel a local movie had add some western sexual element. after the interview, i will connect all those data form the interviewees and analysis how do Hong Kong Teenager consume Western and Oriental movie with sexual element.

Research Project: Statement of Intent

Research Topic
I would like to study about the Korean culture influences in Hong Kong in my final project. The topic of my research would be “How do Korean TV shows affect Hong Kong people to consume Korean product? ”

For making a clear path of the research, there are 3 key research questions. All of the questions in the questionnaire, interview, and scholar articles I search would be revolve to these 3 key questions.
1.    To what extent Hong Kong people like watching Korean TV show?
2.    What kinds of Korean goods does Hong Kong people buy?
3.    Why do Hong Kong people buy Korean goods after watching Korean TV show?

Introduction
Korean culture is popular in Hong Kong is these years. It is because Hong Kong people can reach Korean music and TV show in local TV channels and there are many sources on Internet translated to be Chinese subtitle. Hereafter, lots of Korean goods such as food and clothing become popular in Hong Kong.

This research aims to study the trend of different groups of Hong Kong people watching Korean TV shows, including entertainment shows, music programs and drama. And understand the mindset of different groups of people while they watching Korean TV shows. Thus, consider the trend of different groups of people consumes in Korean goods.

I expected my research find that Hong Kong people buy Korean food after watching Korean entertainment programs and drama, such as noodles, or consider visiting Korean while they are planning to travel. Ladies would consume on Korean cosmetic. Teenagers would follow Korean idols outfit, buying their clothing and the products of idols (like CD and poster). Some of teenager may take parts in Korean language classes, even planning to study abroad to Korean or apply to be Korean singer trainee.

If the research can find that Hong Kong teenagers has follow Korean idol excessively to influences their normal living, I would suggest some ways for them to ponder deeper before purchasing Korean products. Avoiding they feel regret after the craze of Korean culture.

Proposed methodology
I would use both qualitative research and quantitative research to find information for my project. First, online questionnaire will be setting for collecting masses people views. I decided to have 50 local respondents, around 15 persons in each group (students, working people and middle-aged). Then, I would pick 1-2 respondents in each group that has left their contact email or number on the survey. I will contact them to have deeper interviews, for making the research more comprehensive.

Research Diary 2

In my research project, I am going to explore the topic of new media technology. The research question would be “ How the new media technologies is taking over traditional media and is traditional media no longer the main stream of media platform? ".

Introduction
Nowadays, technologies has advanced into a big different level that we had never imagined in the past, and the invention has brought a huge change to the people of how they receive the message from the media, to the media platform, it also brings them advantage and threat, because the way that they used to broadcast or deliver message to the people has been no longer effective or attractive as usual to the people, but on the other hand we can also see how some organizations rise up or advance to a new way to broadcast and become popular in the society also the social media platform. We will going to study what’s the different of the traditional media and the new media, also why people are not tend to use the traditional media anymore, does that mean we don't need it anymore? Does that mean the new media is better the traditional media? We will explore about that.

Methods to be used
From my research, quantitative research would be my major way to do it. First, we can see how many traditional media company (magazine, TV station, newspaper) had closed down because of the decreasing business, and the reason behind it. On the other hand, we would study the usage of social media, how people use it in a single day. Also, we would study how some companies use the new media as a new platform, and why people are so into it beside of using the new media. From the comparison of new media and traditional media, we could find out what the advantage and disadvantage in two of them, and to see how the traditional media is falling back.
Even though quantitative research is my major way, but supplement of qualitative research is also necessary, to target on different age level, to interview with them of how the look at the traditional media and new media, which one they are prefer? Why? Do they think is ok if just use one them? Those questions can make me study deeper to the user, and find out the reason why they tend to this not that, and we can find out what the problem they have in the media.

Draft questions
1)   When was the last time you used traditional media ?
2)   Do you think that the traditional media is falling behind ?
3)   Why you tend to use the new/traditional media ?

4)   What’s the advantage of the new/traditional media ?
