What is the refined research question that you are setting out to answer? (Please be specific in your research topic)

How the young generation trust the content of printed publications?

How does this develop themes and debates explored within the lectures of this module? (Please put down the revised short introduction to your project based on the one in blog 2. Remember that the introduction should include the purpose of your research project, significance and key concept(s) that may be useful for your analysis.)

The aims of my research is to identify the reliability of the selected publications in young generation’s eyes nowadays. In this digital era, people can be able to receive information and news through the Internet, especially the young generation, who having the most frequent rate of participation on Internet through their digital gadgets. There are numerous tunnels for them to get know about a particular news in different ways and angles, hence the truth and reality are more easily to be found, for example the original video clip of the corresponding news, people can understand and comment on the case on their own rather than only absorbing filtered information and stance from the printed media. So people can identify whether the printed media contents are being distorted or not as they are knowing the truth from Internet.

The significance of my research is to classify or identify reliability of selected publication’s content, distinguishing which of them is reporting in most neutral way, while keeping the truth and least adding own stance. So people can choose the more reliable printed media through my research.

What critical methodologies are you going to use? How are you going to produce the evidence you’ll need to answer your research question?

1) Online questionnaire targeting netizens(young generation)

2) In-depth interviews with printed media editors and journalism students

  1. Dear Ka Tsun, The topic is interesting. The way you tackle it needs more detailed plan. If reliability is the emphasis, there would be similar large-scale research conducted by HKU POP or similar organisation. Your focus would be better on the in-depth interview to unfold the reasons for people's perception and interpretation of local news media.
