What is the refined research question that
you are setting out to answer? (Please be specific in your research topic)
How do a violent video game affect player’s
perception and daily life
|
How does this develop themes and debates
explored within the lectures of this module? (Please put down the revised short
introduction to your project based on the one in blog 2. Remember that the
introduction should include the purpose of your research project, significance
and key concept(s) that may be useful for your analysis.)
My aims of my research topic is to discover about how do a video
game affect players in two side, I selected a few video game, which are“Metal Gear”, “League of Legends”,” The Last of Us” and “Grand
Theft Auto V” .These games are consisted blood, shooting, hunting, survival, humans
sense and moral dilemma. Theirs game design theme are close to reality such
as wars shooting, background location and players identity. For instance, “Metal
Gear” a shooting game has been release a story background base on Afghanistan.
Also, I will evaluate these game design flat screens, angel comparing with
reality world and the common game languages between players. Simultaneously,
I will through the interview to investigate and observe player’s psychological
effect such as dreaming, reflex action, daily life social and evaluate the
emotional fluctuations. I think cultivation theory and media violence theory could
be used in my research.

What critical methodologies are you going
to use? How are you going to produce the evidence you’ll need to answer your
research question?
1.
I am planning to have an
in-depth interview with 10 player who are around 15-30 year old in Hong Kong
and they have been played “Metal Gear”, “League of Legends”,” The Last of Us”
and “Grand Theft Auto
V” in the past three week.
2.
Qualitative research: questions
may be around 10 to 15, are consist of their times of play the video game, any
psychological effect such as dreaming, reflex action and evaluate the emotional
fluctuations.

project.

Dear Chau-ling, It would not be easy to establish a causal relationship between media violence and people's behaviour. But you can start doing the research by interviewing some people first. A theoretical framework is rquired. Please take a look of the powerpoint on media violence in Media Culture 2, that is to be covered this week. This would be helpful for your topic.
