Topic Introduction

Where has my idea come from? Recently there have been a lot of movies starring a female lead, it is a big change I believe. Because before that the “Industry” it  portrayed a “Men are in Charge” of the job with women always as “Eye Candy” or in the foil role with the actor. But now female roles are more important characters in movies. Female take the role of heroines in movies, there was a time when the most famous female hero was “superwoman” but now Katniss Everdeen of "The Hunger Games or Tris of ”Divergent" are more well.

In these topics I wonder what the female audience likes, female hero more or male hero more? I think not just the action movie or war movie they fight the bad guys or they get justice than made them a hero , I think if the characters can send the message that they are strong and can handle all comers or support other people or family , that can made them a hero. Such as “Joy” of “Danish Girl” “Room.”  These actress be a hero for their husband , son and family . Does the female audiences like these type of hero ? And how about box office success and gender swapped heroes  how come of that ? Like Actor hero and actress hero when they starring movie what their box office going .

  1. Dear Glori, My recommendation is to study the representation of women in superhero films (or other genres that you like.) It seems to me that you like fantasy films or speculative films. Review the powerpoint for Media Culture 1 and check the topics of "gender representation" and "speculative films". They are relevant. Start doing the analysis and writing something based on your analysis. This would help you clarify what you are studying.
