My research topic: How do Hong Kong golden
forum construct an online identity for local teenager?
Summary 1:
Anderson, B. (Eds).(1991). Imagined Communities: Reflections on the origin and
spread of nationalism. New York, NY.
The author pointed out the definition of imagined
communities. The members will never know the fellow members, meet them or even
hear of them, yet in minds of each lives the image of their communion. Communities
are to be distinguished by the style in which the people are imagined. He
mentioned the Javanese villagers have always known that they are connected to
others who have never seen. However, it is indefinitely stretchable nets of the
kinship. The concept is similar to the Golden forum member. They also do not
know each other but they just like a community because they have their own
unique communion language. They like to use their own Golden forum’s terms to
communicate such as ‘I know that feel bro’, ‘No photo no talk’, ‘Old news is so
exciting’ and ‘I go to school by bus’ etc. They call other as ‘brother’ or ‘sister’
and they have their own icon (clown) and some emoticon. These are the special
dialect. Members can construct and enhance their understanding of identity
through using the forum.
Summary 2: Siu, P.
(2014, October 31). How social media shapes occupy: Web forum HKGolden.com
takes off. South China Morning Post.
The writer explained the Golden forum as an
online community, it enhances the horizontal comradeship between each members.
In the umbrella revolution, a Golden member posted a message on the forum,’ let’s
stand united. The battle will be the turning point of the revolution…we can
block MTR stations and paralyze the MTR.’ Soon after, he was arrested because
he prodded people to join the protests. When this news appeared on the forum, many
members flocked to Mong Kok to express the discontentment. The article shows
that Golden forum as an imagined community, members hold in their minds a mental
image of their intimacy and identify as a part of the same community. They are
willing to protest for their imagined community.
Moreover, I will explain these references in
detail with my interview data because some interview questions related to these references. It can support the points. In my research progress, I have
already invited 5 Golden members to do the interview (three male members and
two female members). Also, I have found some event/discussion on Golden forum
as the example to explain my research topic. A mix blood baby,
Alexandre’s Facebook page is flagged and closed because of Golden members and discussion
of Hong Kong social politics. I will describe in detail in my report.

Dear Yi-ki, The blog is nice. You grasp the idea of how a literature review looks like. What you need to do further is to relate the ideas reviewed in the blog to your research. A transition paragraph which bridges the first and the second article review would be required.
